Tarbet is a tiny settlement on the South shore of Loch Nevis. Though nowadays hard to believe, this bay once bustled with fishing boats landing their catch. As well as travelling there by ferry, it is possible to walk into Tarbet from Bracora . This is a walk that affords stunning scenery along the banks of Loch Morar- one of Europe's deepest fresh water lochs, then up over the narrow headland, from which Tarbet derives its name, to the spectacular views of Loch Nevis. The "going up" bit can be tiring but its worth it for the spectacular views both down Loch Morar and then when Loch Nevis appears suddenly before you. Allow between two and three hours for the walk. TSMV Western Isles calls at Tarbet on Monday and Friday all year round at 3.30 pm. From Mid-May to Mid-September we also call on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon at the same time. If you intend to catch the boat at Tarbet you must phone to confirm numbers. Please note- dogs are very welcome on board the boat but must be on a leash on the walk as this area is still working croft land. |
